1. When Should My Child First See a Dentist?
We recommend scheduling your child’s first visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth coming in.
2. Prepare Ahead of Time
Talk positively about the dentist, read books about dental visits, and avoid using scary words like “hurt” or “pain.”
3. What to Expect
The first visit is typically short and gentle. The dentist will check for cavities, evaluate growth, and offer advice on brushing, teething, and nutrition.
4. Make It Fun
Bring a comfort toy, let them choose a fun toothbrush, and celebrate the visit with a reward (like a sticker or a favorite activity).
5. Build Good Habits Early
Start brushing with a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste as soon as teeth appear. Supervise brushing until your child can do it properly on their own (usually around age 6–8).
